On Friday, February 7th thousands of gestures of generosity and caring happened across Toronto. Over 450 students and adult volunteers shared through canvassing, spoken word poetry, live painting, theatre, dance, art, film and music that “A token gesture can change everything.”
For the second year in a row the Downtown Toronto Café (@OrangeYYZ) hosted the Tokens4Change (@tokens4change) volunteer rally and central hub. All Café proceeds for the month of January went to support YWS and Tokens4Change.
Last weekend, Toronto artists Cre8cure painted a mural at our Downtown Toronto Café in support of Tokens4Change.
Tokens4Change is a program run by Youth Without Shelter (@YWSToronto) to ensure the youth living in the shelter have access to transportation so they can get to work, school, and interviews. You can donate to Tokens4Change on February 7th in subway stations across the city, or in the Café!
In the meantime, drop by the Toronto Café to check out the mural and find out more about Tokens4Change (@Tokens4Change) and Youth Without Shelter. Let us know how you create change and contribute to our interactive chalkboard. All proceeds for the month of January will go to support Tokens4Change.
It was a busy month for the Montreal Café (@OrangeYUL)! The ever so talented Zoom Académie (@Zoom Academie) students made their “Paris Sous Nos Étoiles” event which benefitted the Make A Wish Foundation.
Many different famous faces of Quebec were present and ready to perform to raise funds for the foundation.
Earlier this month, the Montreal Café (@OrangeYUL) was blown away by the talent of the Zoom Académie (@Zoom Academie)students during their ‘Bouchées&Bouchons’ event benefitting the SunYouth Foundation. The foundation seeks to improve the current situation of local youth through education, awareness and material assistance.
Throughout the night, the guests were treated with delicious hors d’oeuvres and the best wines, with all proceeds going to support the foundation!
The night was filled with great prizes and amazing performances.
At the Théâtre Plaza, a wonderful event unfurled to benefit the Quebec Foundation for Mental Illnesses, all put into place by the hard-working students of the Zoom Académie (@Zoom Academie) school.
The night included a very cheery and colorful variety show, all made to especially counter the high number of depression cases during the winter months.
The Montreal Café (@OrangeYUL) was thrilled to sponsor this initiative and appreciated the large showcase of talents displayed at the event, not to mention that it was amazing to be part of an effort to help such a great cause!
This year, the Toronto Cafés (@OrangeYYZ) put their cargo bike to good use by lending it to local charity Not Far From the Tree (@nfftt.) The bike was part of an elite cargo bike fleet that helped Not Far From The Tree pick and share over 22,000 pounds of fruit!
It was busy in the Trinity-Spadina neighbourhood where over 100 fruit trees are registered for Not Far From the Tree’s fruit picking program.
Volunteer pick leaders used the bike to transport picking equipment and to deliver fresh fruit to local food banks, shelters and community kitchens. The bike is back at the Downtown Café for winter storage. Keep an eye out for it in 2014!
For the second year, #TeamOrange in Montreal (@OrangeYUL) had the opportunity to assist the Eva R. GSum Foundation for their Karma 4 Kids Yoga event. As you can see, the day was filled with smiles, fun, yoga and lots of Orange!
Last weekend, #TeamOrange in Toronto (@OrangeYYZ) sponsored the Cycle Toronto Bike Valet at the On Common Ground festival at Fort York. On Common Ground is a free, family friendly festival celebrating local arts and culture. There was live music, performance art and many local exhibitors.
Bike Valet is a free bike parking service offered by our local cycling advocacy group Cycle Toronto. Having a Bike Valet at an event encourages people to ride their bikes, which is great for the environment and the wallet! It doesn’t hurt that we share the colour orange either….
